With school cancelled for so many kids, you may be wondering what toys and activities you can use to promote curiosity, learning, and (most importantly) having fun.
So, I put together a list of toys, games, and activities that will keep kids busy playing. Some of these are great for the whole family while others make perfect independent play activities. Hope you find something you love!
1) The family Treasure Hung Game
This treasure hunt game can be played inside or out. The idea is to place different picture cards (clues) around the house and encourage kids to follow the clues in a sequential order to find the treasure and win the game. Besides for being a ton of fun, it will get kids problem solving, following directions, working towards a goal, and so much more.
2) Boredom Buster- Dry Erase Activities
These dry erase activity cards are perfect for quiet time and can be used over again and over again. Find mazes, math activities, hidden pictures, and more.
3) Boredom Box
The Boredom Box is specifically designed for our exact purpose which is keeping kids busy when stuck indoors. It includes a variety of games and puzzles that will keep kids engaged and problem solving.
3) Go Fish
Sometimes all you need is a simple card game. Remember how much you enjoyed playing Go Fish?
4) Brain Freeze
Brain Freeze is a 2 player strategy game which requires logic, memory, and problem solving to play. The idea is to figure out which sweet treat the other player has chosen through deductive reasoning.
5) Don’t Make Me Laugh
They say laughter is the best medicine so why not incorporate more laughter into play. Don’t Make Me Laugh is a charades like game that requires kids (and adults) to a act out hilarious situations while promoting creative thinking and building confidence. LOVE THIS!
6) Jenga
If you haven’t played Jenga before, you’ll enjoy it just as much as the kids. The idea is to eliminate pieces of the tower without letting it fall. Jenga is not only super engaging but also teaches kids about balance, grading pressure, and motor control while staying focused.
7) Clue Junior
Kids love the same games that we do! Clue Junior guides players to solve the mystery of who ate the last piece of cake. It can be played with the whole family to promote bonding and interaction.
8) Doodle Droodle
Doodle Droodle is a creative drawing activity that requires thinking outside the box. Players pick a card with a doodle and finish it by creating a picture out of it in 60 seconds. The first person to guess what you drew can be next to create a droodle.
9) Turtle Steps
Turtle Steps is a balance and coordination game. It comes with 24 activity cards with turtle facts, a spinner, and instructions for a few game variations.
10) Yarn Tree Kit
How creative is this craft project?! Kids can create a jewelry holder out of yarn!
