8 Super Fun Memory Games for Kids That Will Boost Working Memory

 
 

When we think of memory games, we likely envision the classic card games of concentration where simple pictures are turned upside down, and players have to search for two matches. Being a pediatric occupational therapist, I wondered about other types memory games I could introduce to challenge kids’ visual memory and did some research. Here are 8 new unique memory games that I found that I think you and your kids will love.

1) Memory Ice Pops

Memory Ice Pops will add a fun new twist to the original memory game. Whether your kids love to play memory or not, incorporating a desired item like ice pops will get them motivated to play, and play equals to learning.

2) Spot The Difference

Spot The Difference Game

Spot the Difference can be a one player visual perceptual game or a 2 player memory game. To play: spot 6 differences between two cards then see how many you can remember without looking.

3) BrainBox ART

Art Memory Game

What better way to introduce and learn about artists and paintings than through a fun art memory game?! The idea is to study each card for 10 seconds than see how many details you can remember about each one. This can be played with one or two players.

4) I Spy Memory Game

I Spy Memory Game adds an additional challenge to simply matching pictures while playing memory as kids have to also recognize pictures within different backgrounds and positions. This game not only promotes visual memory but also foucses on visual discrimination and form constancy.

5) Stare Junior

Stare Junior asks players to look at a card for 30 seconds and memorize as many details as possible. When 30 seconds are up, players roll the dice and answer the question number (on the back of the card) that the dice shows. If they are correct they move that many spaces along on the game board. The person who reaches the finish line first wins the game.

6) Qurious Dinos

Dinosaur Memory Game

If your kids are fans of dinosaurs (like so many are), this memory game is for you. Aside from the memory game, Qurious Dinos also comes with instructions for a few different game variations such as searching for matches within two cards and creating words. Kids will have a blast searching for and memorizing Dinosaur names and facts as they play.

7) Interiors Matching Game

I accidentally found Interiors memory game on Amazon and thought it was an excellent (and unique) idea. If you or your kids love interior design, you’ll have a ton of fun playing this game while analzying and matching the beautifully illustrated interiors. Matching these pictures will require more concentration and attention to detail than typical memory games. So good!

8) Missing Socks Memory Game

Searching for misisng socks is way cooler when playing this game than it is in real life. Plus you get the added bonus of actually finding them. Love the pretty patterns and designs on all the socks too! :)
