What you need to know: Pete the Cat I love My Buttons Game is a fun new board game for preschoolers from the Educational Insights line that involves squeezers. The goal of the game is to help Pete the Cat button all the buttons on his shirt before the other players.
I Love My Buttons Game comes with 4 Pete the Cat Game boards with 5 missing shape buttons,
a Pete the Cat squeezer,
a spinner,
and button shapes.
The idea is to spin the spinner on your turn and follow the direction that you land on. The directions tell you which button shape you need to place onto your Pete the Cat game card using the squeezers.
Why this game is awesome: I Love My Buttons game is super simple but addresses important developmental skills that preschoolers need to learn. Squeezing the squeezer builds hand muscles and fine motor coordination which we need to perform daily tasks like writing, cutting, and shoe tying. The game also teaches kids to wait their turn, follow directions, pay attention to rules in a game, and to match shapes. There is also an additional component of practicing winning and losing gracefully which is a necessary life skill to attain.
Did I mention it’s also a ton of fun?!
Tip: Encourage kids to hold the squeezers like they would a pencil so that they are strengthening the thumb, index and middle fingers and practicing a correct grasp pattern.
