What you need to know: Dragon’s Breath is a unique board game with an exciting theme. It can be played with 2-4 players, is recommended for ages 5 and up, but can be modified for younger players.
Goal of the game: Collect the most “gems” as the “ice” melts by predicting the color gem that is most likely to fall out.
Dragon’s Breath comes with 9 plastic rings or “ice”
colorful plastic gems,
4 dragon children, 5 sparkling stones,
Dragon Dad,
a box base with dividers (the corners are used to collect the gems of the dragon children, and the middle is for the left over gems),
and a game board.
Set up: Place the 9 ice rings in the middle of the board game, and the dragon children in the slots in the corners of the game board. Each player then decides on which dragon child they want to be.
Fill the ice rings with gems all the way to the top.
To Play: Players choose a sparkling stone that they believe will match the gem color that will fall out when the top ring is removed or “melted by the Dragon Dad.” The player whose turn it is to be “Dragon Dad” chooses the stone first.
When the ring is removed, players collect their matching gems.
It’s then the next players turn to be “Dragon Dad,” choose a sparking stone first, and remove the next ring.
The player who collects the most gems after all the ice rings are removed wins the game.
To modify for younger players, have them choose one stone per game rather than switching it on every turn.
Skills this works on: Turn-taking, following directions, inferencing, strategy (how to best remove the rings so that a particular color falls out), counting, and fine motor skills (manipulating the gems).
